Interim Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad declared that he now has the numbers to form the new government. This is after he met with Pakatan Harapan leaders this morning. "I am now confident that I have the numbers needed to garner majority support in the Dewan Rakyat. "I am therefore prepared to stand as a prospective candidate for prime minister. "This decision will be conveyed to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong," he said in a statement. Pakatan Harapan, in a separate statement, confirmed that the coalition will support Mahathir. From what has happened, it is my considered opinion that Dr Mahathir Mohamed is indeed a selfish man, unmatched in the history of the country. Why did he resign as prime minister? Najib Razak berkata peletakan jawatan Peguam Negara Tommy Thomas di sebalik jangkaan peralihan kuasa di Putrajaya tidak akan beri kesan padanya, sebaliknya beliau mahu melawan pertuduhan rasuah dan salah guna kuasa terhadapnya di mahkamah. KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 28): Attorney-General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas has resigned as Malaysia gets set for a new Prime Minister. Thomas submitted his resignation letter to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who appointed him to the post for a two-year term which was due to end only in June. A source said Thomas wanted to resign while Mahathir was still the Prime Minister, albeit interim, as he was the person who appointed him. Thomas had relentlessly pursued prosecutions related to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal. KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Yusof today rejected a notice by Dr Mahathir Mohamad to call for a special sitting on Monday to allow MPs to elect a new prime minister, saying it could only be convened after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decides on the formation of a new government. Ariff also said the notice submitted to him by the interim prime minister failed to fulfil Dewan Rakyat’s Standing Order 11(3), which required more details of a proposed motion. “Under Standing Order 11(3), the notice and date should be issued by me in my capacity as the Speaker.
